The Department of Electronic Microscopy provides scientific and technical support to research groups interested in using electron microscopy techniques for ultra-structural analysis of biological samples and antigen immunodetection. We have a transmission electron microscope (JEM1010, Jeol) and the material required for sample preparation.
2) Conventional processing of samples in plastic resins.
3) Cryosubstitution and cryoinclusion.
4) Ultramicrotomy of samples embedded in resin.
5) Cryoultramicrotomy.
6) Electronic immunomicroscopy with colloidal gold conjugates.
7) Cryofracture, freeze etching and obtaining Pt-C replicas.
8) Nucleic acid electron microscopy.

- 2% aqueous solution.
- Cryoprotection, vitrification in liquid propane (plunge freezing), dehydration at low temperature and cryo-embedding in Lowicryl resins.
- 4% Paraformaldehyde (PFA) + 2% Glutaraldehyde (GT) in pad.
- 2% PFA + 0.2% GT or 4% PFA + 0.05 – 0.1 GT in pad.
- Includes post-fixation with Osmium, block staining with Uranyl Acetate, dehydration and embedding in TA in Epoxy resin or White LR.
- Post-embedding immune marking with colloidal gold conjugates on resin sections or cryosections.
- Cu, Ni or Cu/Pd grids covered with Collodion film or Formvar and C shades.
